Japanese 101 - 202 | Elementary and Intermediate Japanese

Japanese 101 and 102, Elementary Japanese, creates a foundation with the fundamentals of the language, beginning with the two phonetic alphabets, hiragana and katakana. Basic kanji and grammar points are studied. The second level of classes, Intermediate Japanese, builds onto the concepts from the first tier and introduces more conversation and reading into the class alongside a continuation of grammar and kanji.

Japanese 305 & 306 | Japanese Conversation and Composition

Japanese Conversation and Composition focused more intensely on vocabulary, speaking skills, and comprehension during in-class conversation about various intercultural topics presented in the textbook. Further developed writing skills through various exercises and assignments meant to challenge ability to apply known and recently learned grammar constructs and vocabulary.

Accounting 201 | Financial Accounting Concepts

Financial Accounting Concepts introduced various accounting principles, emphasizing the use of financial data and the analysis of financial statements.

English 304 | Business Writing

Through a hands-on project that came together over the course of the semester, Business Writing allowed us to take on the role of an entrepreneur. We created pitches for small businesses and several were chosen to be further developed into full business plans.

Culture & Literature

English 212 | World Literature

World Literature analyzes works from around the world and from different time periods, focusing on major authors of each period and region. Discussed the cultural differences between the cultures of origin of each work.

English 357 | Film

Film utilized films from various time periods and genres in order to examine the film medium as art form. Introduced an applied various film theories and the standards with which film is evaluated and analyzed.

Japanese 316 & 416 | Japanese for International Trade

Japanese for International Trade I & II introduces and reinforces aspects of the Japanese language necessary for the business world, especially formal speech.  Applies all grammar learned in previous classes as well as new constructs that may have not yet been encountered. Compares both Japanese and American business practices.

Economics 211 & 314 | Microeconomics

Principles of Microeconomics and Intermediate Microeconomics introduced and developed the application of economic reasoning to the behavior of consumers and firms through basic knowledge of economic concepts and, later, an analysis of these concepts when applied to different market conditions.

Economics 212 & 315 | Macroeconomics

Principles of Macroeconomics and Intermediate Macroeconomics introduced and developed knowledge of aggregate economic performance through topics such as inflation that affect entire financial markets. Later combines theory with statistics to look at real-world examples in order to apply and analyze these concepts.

Management 201 | Principles of Management

Principles of Management gives inside into the various aspects of a manager’s role in a company. Topics include functions of management, principles of organization, and behavior in organizations.

Management 423 | International Business Management

International Business Management takes basic management principles and applies and compares them to those from cultures around the world to show the various differences between business cultures around the world and how these differences can complicate interactions between international companies.

Marketing 301 & 302 | Principles of Marketing & Consumer Behavior

Principles of Marketing introduced the basic concepts involved in planning, pricing, promotion, and distribution of goods and services. Consumer Behavior analyzed the behavioral science behind how various categories of consumers make purchasing decisions.

Marketing 426 | Business-to-Business Marketing

Business-to-Business Marketing analyzes the unique aspects of how firms market goods and services to organizational buyers, rather than everyday consumers. Emphasizes how to develop strategic responses to market opportunities given competitive behavior.

Marketing 427 | International Marketing

International Marketing looks at and analyzes marketing from an international perspective. Focuses on aspects like cultural differences in order to emphasize the importance of knowing the target population that is being marketed to.

Marketing 445 | Macromarketing

Macromarketing addresses the question, “why do we think what we think?” Looks at the relationship between how marketing practices impact society through topics such as materialism, environmental sustainability, ethics, and the politics and philosophy that drive marketing.

English 385 | Children's Literature

Children’s Literature looked at works varying from Goodnight Moon to Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone in order to analyzed the ways in which games and gaming are utilized though social, thematic, and historical lenses within Children’s Literature.

Japanese 406 | Introduction to Japanese Literature

Introduction to Japanese Literature provides students with an array of contemporary Japanese literary works to read and analyze in historical and societal contexts. Advanced readings require application of all grammar and vocabulary knowledge gained from regular Japanese language classes.

Japansese 417 | Japanese Culture and Society

Japanese Culture and Society focuses on various themes within Japanese culture that are present in current social interaction and ritualistic behavior. The course focuses on topics such as social organization and gender roles within Japanese society through an array of works by both Japanese and non-Japanese authors.

Japanese 491 | Senior Seminar in Japanese Literature

Senior Seminar in Japanese Literature involves close readings of both premodern and modern Japanese literature. Focuses on well-known and important authors and their works of prose and poetry that help to define Japanese literary works. Helps students familiarize themselves with the cultural and linguistic nuances of Japanese literature that are often lost in translation.
